Preliminary requirements for IAS preparation requires that the candidate must hold a graduate degree at the time of appearing for the exam. The graduation degree must be obtained from some recognized university or college.

While stepping for the IAS preparation one must choose the subjects that he/she is going to prepare for IAS exam and accordingly start collecting information about the subjects and the amount of work required for the IAS exam.
