IES i.e Indian Engineering Service Examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission Once in a year. This year notification is not yet released. But you can expect the notification soon. Engineering Service Examination is conducted for recruitment to core branches of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Minimum Academic Qualification to apply for this examination is that candidate should have obtained Engineering degree from a recognized University or equivalent qualification. Even those who have obtained M.Sc degree or its equivalent qualification with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering may also apply.
The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years at the time of appearing for this examination. Relaxation is applicable for reserved categories. Three years relaxation is applicable for OBC category and five years relaxation is applicable for SC/ST category. It is not equivalent to IAS/IPS Examination. IAS/IPS and IES both are different. All the engineering graduate are eligible to apply. More details, visit the official website :- www.upsc.gov.in |

No dear actually IES is not similar as IAS/IPS and IES is the Indian Engineering Services Examination and conducted by the UPSC. Through this examination you have a chance to apply for Engineering jobs in Railways and many other central government jobs.
IAS and IPS are the Exams under Civil Services examination and any graduate can apply for the Civil services examination with out of preference of any stream. But coming to IES ,the candidates who have the following streams in their B.E/B.Tech are only Eligible to apply for IES. List of branches under IES examination : 1.Mechanical Engineering 2.Civil Engineering 3.Electrical Engineering 4.Electronics and Communication Engineering. |

Re: Which all branches are there in engineering? Who can write IES exam? Is IES equivalent to IAS/IPS?
There are a number of branches in which the graduation degree of engineering is given by various universities across the country.
The main branches are as follows : * Civil Engineering * Mechanical Engineering * Electrical Engineering * Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering * Computer Science Engineering * Electrical & Electronics Engineering * Information Technology To write the IES examination the branches permitted are as follows : * * Civil Engineering * Mechanical Engineering * Electrical Engineering * Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering And both the exams i.e. the IES and IAS are conducted by the UPSC but they are not equivalent. They both are for different fields so no comparision can be done between them. |
