LLM programmes are the master degree course after LLB. The LLM in Human Rights specializes in the area of human rights issues and related fields in advanced level. The duration of this course will be 12 or 24 months for the regular candidates and 36 months for the part time course. The course offers different options at international levels such as

  • Human Rights, War and Terrorism
  • Regional Human Rights Systems
  • Issues in North American Human Rights Law
  • Peoples, Indigenous Peoples and Minorities in International Law
  • International Human Rights Law

Application Procedures

The course usually commences in the month of September every year. The students wishing to join this course can apply any time before September. The application procedures for the courses beginning in January will be closed by the end of September. The international students should prepare within the time required for the visa application processing. The application form can be procured via internet. The students are advised to download the application form from the website of the institute they wish to study or they can send a request mail to universities for application form.

Eligibility Criteria

The students wishing to join for the LLM course abroad should satisfy some eligibility criterion. Those candidates who have completed their Honours degree in Law or equivalent are only eligible for this course. Another essential thing is that the candidate should have proficiency in English. Otherwise it will be difficult for them to understand the lecture classes and to work out the written tasks. The proficiency in language will be evaluated on the basis of IELTS or TOEFL qualifications. The minimum qualification will also be assessed in written English components.

Application Requirements

The most important factor at the time of applying is that the candidates should verify that whether all the required details are completed and the necessary documents are enclosed with the application form. The documents needed for the application are:

  • Postgraduate Application duly filled.
  • Details of the academic achievements of candidate till date
  • Proof of proficiency in English is required if the candidate is an international applicant.
  • The candidate must provide two references if they are applying for the research programmes and one reference for the programmes that are taught there. However their will be some exceptions, so the candidates must check the sites which contain these details.
  • Some programmes require a resume of the applicant.

List of Admission Tests

Some of the top universities and institutions will accept any of the standard qualifications required for the admission of Masters programmme. The test will be based on the stream in which the candidate is applying for. For LLM in Human Rights, usually the universities require candidates who have qualified LSAT.
