Combined Medical Services Exam is organized by Union Public Service Commission for the purpose of recruiting eligible candidates in various Government sector companies including Railways, Ordinance Factories Health Service, and Central Health Service. This exam provides an opportunity for eligible aspirants to get placed in these firms.

Basic Eligibility criteria for UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination

  • The basic educational qualification needed for a candidate to apply for this exam is a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree with at least 50% marks.
  • They should attain this degree from a recognized University. The candidate should also be physically fit to apply for this exam.

Age requirement for UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination

The candidates who have completed 21 years of age can apply for UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination. The upper age limit for the candidate to apply for this exam will be 32 years.

Pattern of UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination

There are two papers for this exam. The questions of this exam are of objective nature with multiple choices. The first paper includes questions from General Ability General Medicine & Pediatrics. In the second part there will be equal number of questions from Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics and Preventive & Social Medicine Paper. The total time duration of this exam will be 120 minutes. There will be a total of 120 questions and the maximum marks allotted for this exam will be 250 for each paper.  There will be negative marking for wrong answers. 1/3 of the mark allotted for that question will be deducted for wrong answers.

Who can apply for UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination?

All Indian citizens can apply for this exam. Foreign candidates can also apply for this exam subject to certain conditions as insisted by the authorities.

Application Procedure for UPSC Combined Medical Service Examination

The candidate can apply for this exam via online and offline mode. In offline mode, the candidate can purchase the application forms from several post offices as mentioned in the exam brochure. They should fill the application form and send the application form to the specified address. They should pay a fees of Rs.100/- . The reserved category candidates as well as female candidates need not pay the fees. They can apply for this exam through online mode as well. For that they can visit the official website and fill the online application form. After completely filling the form they should click the submit button. They will receive an acknowledgement specifying a registration number and password which should be kept for future reference.
