Admission to the MBBS course

Admittance to the MBBS course is done as per as the scores obtained by the students in the admittance test carried out by the institutions concerned. There is reservation for certain sections of the society and it is as follows:

Out of the total 50 available seats

• 7 (seven) seats - Scheduled Castes
• 4 (four) seats - Scheduled Tribes
• 5 (five) seats - Foreign Nationals whoa are chosen by the Indian government.

Remaining 34 (thirty four) are to be filled by general candidates as per as the scores got by them in the admission test.

Domestic

Indian nationals who are applying after they complete class 10+2 must have above 55 percent marks in the admission tests carried out by the individual institutions. Graduates can also apply, provided that they have learned the science stream and has secured above 60% marks in their finals. Students of the reserved communities with a graduate degree in nursing or science (general and veterinary) with above 50 percent marks in their finals are eligible to apply too.

Overseas

Foreign nationals who fulfill the criteria set by the Indian government must possess a least amount of 50% marks in Biology, English, Chemistry and Physics.

Admission requirements for foreign nationals

Students need to own a passport and a student’s visa issued from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Number of Semesters

Students will have 9 semesters plus one year of compulsory internship.

Syllabus

Details bout the phases and the topics covered are:

• Pre-clinical 1 – 2 : Two Semesters Anatomy, Bio-chemistry, Physiology
• Para-clinical 3 – 5 : Three Semesters Community Medicine; Forensic Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Clinical postings in wards, OPDs
• Clinical 6 – 9: Four Semesters Community Medicine, Medicine and allied subjects (Psychiatry, Dermatology) ;  Obstetrics and gynaecology.; Pediatrics; Surgery and allied subjects (Anesthesiology, E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Orthopedics);Clinical postings

Internship

Students have to do internship compulsorily. The total time period of Internship is 1 year. The posting details are given below:

• Medicine - This specialty has the duration of 1 ½ months.
• Surgery - This specialty has the duration of 1 ½ months
• Rural - This specialty has the duration of 3 months
• Paediatrics - This specialty has the duration of 1 month
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology - This specialty has the duration of 1 month
• Casualty - This specialty has the duration of 1 month
• Anaesthesiology - This specialty has the duration of 15 days
• Ophthalmology - This specialty has the duration of 15 days
• Elective - This specialty has the duration of 2 months

All this will make a total 12 months

During the period of internship, more importance will be given for realistic “hands-on” experience.  Interns will be given a stipend as per as the orders of the Indian government.
