Difference between same subject course in B.Tech and B.Sc

Advertisements

B.Tech. is a professional Bachelors’ degree program whereas B.Sc. is only an academic Science graduation course. B Tech stands for Bachelor of Technology whereas B.Sc. is Bachelor of Science. Since B Tech is an engineering graduation, B Tech students have to study the vast techniques involved in a particular subject. They have to study about the processes involved in designing new instruments, techniques or programs, which comes under their field of study. On the contrary, B.Sc. graduates may have to study the working principles about an instrument or a process that is included in their curriculum.

Duration of B Tech and B.Sc. programs

Although both these are graduation programs, B Tech is a four year duration course. Aspirants can complete the B.Sc. programs within three years. Engineering colleges offer the B Tech programs whereas aspirants have to pursue the B.Sc. programs from Science and Arts colleges.

Key differentiators

Even if B Tech and B.Sc. graduates have taken same specializations, B Tech students may have in depth knowledge about the construction, designing and other internal mechanisms concerned with a subject. However, B.Sc. students may only know about the theoretical and practical applications of the instruments, equipments or processes in their field of study.

Common Specializations in B Tech and B.Sc

Given below is the list of common specializations available in B Tech and B.Sc.

  • Information Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical
  • Electronics
  • Biotechnology

B Tech Information Technology Vs B.Sc. Information Technology

Comparing B Tech IT with B.Sc IT, there are major differences in the course structure, syllabus and the mode of teaching both these programs. While pursuing the B Tech Information Technology program, aspirants may have to study the general engineering principles along with Information Technology subjects. As part of the program, aspirants may have to study the different programming languages, so as to develop new software packages, which could be applied to make various machines work. In the B.Sc. Information Technology program, aspirants may have to study the various applications of programming languages in the corporate world. These graduates also have to study about the tools, which are used in the IT industry.

Career opportunities for the B Tech and B.Sc. programs

With the advancements in Science and Technology, a wide range of job openings is emerging day by day for B Tech and B.Sc. graduates. As B Tech is a high-level degree, when comparing with B.Sc., engineering graduates can expect better employment opportunities in the industry. By studying Postgraduate courses after the B.Sc. program, Science graduates can also expect good careers. The career opportunities for both these graduates may vary according to the area of studies they specialize in.
