Government Colleges for DM in Clinical Haematology
Haematology is a branch of medicine that deals with the study of blood diseases, blood-forming organs and blood. Haematology includes the study of prevention, prognosis, treatment, diagnosis and etiology of blood diseases. DM in Clinical Haematology is a PG specialty degree awarded in the field of medicine.
The duration of this course is three years and many private and government colleges offer this course in India, the list of Government-run medical colleges that are approved by the Medical Council of India to offer this course is given below:
Delhi:
• All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi
Tamil Nadu:
• Madras Medical College, Chennai
West Bengal:
• Nilratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata
• Medical College, Kolkata
Most of these colleges are permitted to admit two students per year, except Medical College, Kolkata, which is permitted to admit three students per year by the Medical Council of India.
Eligibility for seeking admission to the DM in Clinical Haematology Course:
For seeking admission to this super specialty course, candidates must have completed their M.D in any of medical branches like biochemistry, paediatrics, pathology and medicine. They should also take up the entrance examination and for applying to the entrance examination in most of the universities, candidates must have secured minimum of 50% of marks in the PG medical course in case he/she belongs to general category and 40% of marks if he/she belongs to reserved category like SC/ST or other backward class.
Admission Procedure for DM Clinical Haematology course:
For admission of students to the DM Clinical Haematology course, the medical colleges might follow any of the procedures:
• Based on the merit as determined by the competitive test conducted by the respective state government/competent authority appointed by the state government or by the group of universities/by a single university
• On the basis of entrance test conducted at the national level by any centralized authority
• Based on the cumulative performance of the individual candidates at the MBBS examination in case the candidate has completed the MBBS course from the same university
