Procedure to become an Architect after 12th
Those who aspire to become an Architect after 12th should first of all join the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) course offered by various engineering institutions. To get admission into B.Arch course, one should obtain adequate score in senior secondary examination as well as National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). In certain cases, candidates are required to qualify the entrance test held by the relevant institution which offers B.Arch course. After completing this 5 year course, one can join as an Architect in relevant firms if they get qualified in all the stages of recruitment process.
Step 1: Join B.Arch course
To join B.Arch course, one should first of all appear for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). Most of the institutions give admission to B.Arch course on the basis of NATA score.
This aptitude test comprises of two sections, Drawing Test and Aesthetic Sensitivity Test. Areas included in drawing test are perspective drawing, sketching an object in the specified proportion, elaborating a theme using pencil sketch and creating two dimensional compositions. Aesthetic Sensitivity Test is an online test in which the aspirants need to answer 40 multiple choice questions regarding given picture, imaginative comprehension, analytical reasoning and mental ability. Those who want to score well in NATA should carefully attend the Drawing Test as it is evaluated by a panel of three evaluators.
Candidates can seek admission to B.Arch course, if they possess minimum of 40% marks in NATA. Apart from NATA score, candidates need to obtain minimum of 50% marks in senior secondary or equivalent examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects. Certain institution will consider both NATA and Common Entrance Test (CET) score for B.Arch admission. In the case, candidates should appear for the entrance test conducted by relevant institution for getting admission into B.Arch course.
Step 2: Apply for a suitable job
Most of the reputed institutions offering B.Arch course will have on-campus placements. Candidates who aspire to become an architect can take part in this on-campus recruitment drive during the final year of B.Arch course itself. It is possible to join as an architect after B.Arch course, if the candidates get qualified in all stages of recruitment process held by relevant firms. They can also appear for the off-campus recruitment drive to get the job of architect in the desired company.
Apart from recruitment drive, candidates can search the job of architect through newspapers, online job sites or consultancies. They should forward their resume to the concerned company if they find the job through newspaper. But in the case of job sites, one should have to upload their resume in the relevant site so that the employers will approach them if they get impressed by the resume.
Consultancies will also help the candidates to find vacancies available in relevant companies. But the candidates need to pay registration fee after giving their details to the consultancy. Relevant employer will call the candidates to attend their recruitment process, if their resume get short listed. Candidates can join as Architect if they score well in all rounds of recruitment process.
In most of the cases, recruitment process includes written test and personal interview. Group Discussion is included in in-campus recruitment drive of certain companies.
