Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is conducted for admission to the Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) / Master of Law (LL.M.) programs. There are two versions of LSAT. One is for admission to the five year integrated B.A. LL.B. (or equivalent) programme. The other version is for admission to the three year LL.B. or LL.M. programme.

Exam Pattern of LSAT

LSAT follows the objective type multiple choice question format. The examination will also feature an essay question. Candidates are required to complete the test within 2 hours 20 minutes. There will be no negative score for marking incorrect answers. The examination consists of four sections.

• Reading Comprehension (One section)
• Logical reasoning (Two sections)
• Analytical Reasoning (One section)

Reading comprehension consists of 4 sets of comprehension/reading passages. Each passage contains around 400 – 600 words. Candidates are required to answer questions based on the passage given. There are two logical reasoning sections. It includes questions based on statements, short passages, discussion, arguments, etc. Analytical reasoning features four sets of statements, rules or conditions. Based on each set, 4 – 7 questions will be asked. This section contains a total of around 22 – 24 questions.

Candidates have to complete each section within 35 minutes. The question paper also contains an essay question to be answered by candidates within 30 minutes. The essay does not carry any marks. A copy of the essay will be sent to the applicant’s preferred choice of college. The essay will be evaluated in the event of a tie-break. The final score will be published as percentiles. Preparation Tips for LSAT exam

Reading comprehension features passages from diverse areas like the social sciences, humanities, biological and physical sciences, and aspects concerned with law. Candidates are required to read the passages closely. Candidates should take care to choose the most appropriate answer as the choice would contain more than one true statement. The reading speed can be improved with extensive reading. Candidates can also practice skimming and scanning of passages and check the level of retention. A comfortable and adequate strategy should be devised beforehand. This section also features a set of passage where comparative reading is required to be done. Speed and accuracy should be developed to complete the section within 35 minutes.

The analytical reasoning section requires the candidate to utilize basic analytical skills. Candidates are required to make accurate deductions based on the information provided. Candidates should avoid assuming outcomes. The question should be properly understood before attempting an answer.

Questions from the logical reasoning section should be attempted carefully. There will be similar choices. Picking the right answer requires close reading and comprehension. Previous year questions papers and mock papers can be attempted by candidates as part of preparation.
