Associate Membership Examination is conducted by Aeronautical Society of India twice every year. There are two sections A and B in the exam. Each section consists of ten papers. Students who have completed 12th standard, B.Sc in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics; Airmen of Indian Air Force are eligible to take the exam. Students can appear for section B if they have cleared section A.

Section A

Eligibility Criteria

Students satisfying any of the following criteria can apply for the Section A exam

• 12th pass outs or students who have passed intermediate or equivalent exam
• Students who have passed Studentship Examination of the Aeronautical Society before June 1998
• Students who have completed B.Sc in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics

These students should have secured minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

Airmen of Indian Air Force can appear for the exam under the X category if they belong to any of the following trades

• Electrical Artificer (Air Radio)
• Electrical Artificer (Air)
• Leading Air Mechanics
• Leading Air Ordnance Mechanics
• Leading Electrical Mechanics (Air Radio)
• Leading Electrical Mechanics (Air)
• Aircraft Artificer (Weapons)

Students who have completed Diploma in Engineering and secured minimum 50% aggregate during the three years of the course too can apply for this exam. Students who have pursued diploma courses recognised by DGCA and studied Aircraft Systems, Aircraft General Engineering and Aircraft Regulation as part of the course curriculum are eligible to take the exam.

Exemption

Students who have completed engineering in civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical or IT stream can avail exemption in six out of the ten subjects.

Civil, Chemical and mechanical engineers can seek exemption from appearing in the following papers

• Strength of Material
• Fluid Mechanics
• Engineering Thermodynamics
• Applied Maths I
• Engineering Drawing & Design
• Workshop Technology

Engineers who have specialised in electrical or IT can seek exemption from appearing in the following papers

• Basic Electronics
• Electrical Engineering
• Microprocessors and Software Engineering
• Applied Maths I
• Engineering Drawing & Design
• Workshop Technology

Diploma holders in engineering, graduates degree holders in engineering are exempted from the 6 week workshop training capsule.

Syllabus

The 10 compulsory subjects in section A are as follows:

• Applied Mathematics I
• Introduction to Aeronautics
• Basic Electronics
• Engineering Drawing and Design
• Electrical Engineering
• Microprocessors and Software Engineering
• Engineering Thermodynamics
• Fluid Mechanics
• Strength of Materials
• Workshop Technology

There will be a practical capsule on workshop practices. The duration of the workshop is six weeks.

Section B

Eligibility Criteria

All students who have cleared Section A can apply for the Section B examination. The students should have completed the six week training capsule of section A.

Syllabus

Students can choose from any of the four streams. The four streams are Aero-mechanical, Avionics, Maintenance & Production (Electrical or Mechanical). There will be ten theoretical subjects. Also there will be two practical training capsules on workshop practices in this section.
