Genetic engineering is one field that has a lot of career prospects. Students who have completed their education in this specialized field of biotechnology can get jobs in a variety of areas. More details about the course and its career prospects are mentioned below.

What is the eligibility needed?

The eligibility needed by an aspirant to get admission to the B.Tech in Genetic Engineering program is a pass in the Joint Entrance exam carries out by the Indian Institute of Technology(s) or equivalent exam. The selection of students to this program is based on the marks secured by them in the JEE or the qualifying exam. A pass in class 12 is the qualification is needed to apply for this exam. Those who accomplish this course can go for M.Tech in the same field. Advanced study options include the Doctorate Degrees (PhD). Selection to the M.Tech program is done on basis of the marks secured by aspirants in a national level admission test. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Entrance Exam (IIT) and the All India Combined Entrance Exam carried out by the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi are a few examples of the M.Tech entrance exams.

Some other B.Tech Genetic Engineering Entrance exams:

  • All India Common Entrance Test
  • All India Engineering Entrance Exams
  • Assam Joint entrance Test in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
  • Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Exam
  • International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Entrance Exam
  • Jawaharlal Nehru University Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology Entrance Exam (JNU EEE)
  • SRM University Genetic Engineering Entrance Exam
  • Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) Genetic Engineering Entrance Exam

Responsibilities of Genetic Engineers

Scientists of genetic engineering are generally involved in the research, development and testing of new procedure as well as products that have a variety of potential applications.

The Job prospects

  • Biochemical Engineering Research and Process Development Centre, Chandigarh
  • The Centre for DNA Fingerprint and Diagnos-tics, Hyderabad
  • The Institute of Genomic and Integrative Biology, Delhi
  • The National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi

The remuneration of the professionals will be around Rs.20, 000 – Rs. 30,000/- a month.
