Airmen Recruitment in Indian Air Force 2013 – Eligibility and Selection Process

Indian Air Force has invited applications from 12th passed candidates for the position of ‘Airmen’. Candidates having completed 12th class with subjects like physics, mathematics, and English can participate in the recruitment drive.  Diploma holders in streams like mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and electronics engineering can also apply. Selection is done through the process of written test, interview, physical fitness test, trade allocation test, and medical examination.

Eligibility Criteria for Airmen Recruitment in Indian Air Force 2013

Unmarried male candidates having completed intermediate (10 + 2) or equivalent from any of the recognized institute can apply. They must have studied physics, mathematics, and English as subjects and have obtained a minimum aggregate of 50% marks (in these subjects). Such candidate must have obtained at least 50% marks in English language alone.

Diploma holders with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks can also apply. They must have studied English as a subject either at 12th or diploma and have obtained at least 50% marks in the subject. This three year diploma must be pursued in any of the following streams.

  • Automobile Engineering
  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Instrumentation Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Age of the applicant must be between 16 and 19 years. More precisely, candidates who have born between born between 01 September 1993 and 30 December 1996 are eligible to apply. Other than this, candidates must satisfy the medical standards as per IAF medical standards.

Recruitment Procedure for Airmen in Indian Air Force 2013

Selection of eligible candidates ate made through the following stages.

  • Written Test
  • Interview
  • Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
  • Trade Allocation Test (TAT)
  • Medical Examination

First stage of the screening process is written exam. The test comprises questions from topics like English, Physics and Mathematics. Duration for this objective model test is 60 minutes. Separate cut off score is there for each of the papers to qualify.

Those who qualify the written exam should qualify physical fitness test as the very next step. This includes a run of 1.6km that must be completed within duration of 8 minutes. Those who can complete the session with in 7 minutes 30 seconds will be given with additional marks.

Interview session will be conducted for those candidates who have qualified the written test and physical fitness test. After interview, candidates are allotted into the streams of mechanical or electronics through Trade Allocation Test (TAT). The test is carried out by Basic Training Institute (BTI), Air Force (Belgaum).

Medical examination is the final stage of selection process. Air Force Medical Team carries out the process and check whether the results are as per IAF medical standards.
