Decide between Biology and Computer Science!!!!!!!!
Now every result is coming out, both at the central and the state level, time has come to take some decisions. For many this is the time to take the decision about the career and for others it is the moment to think about the higher studies. The result may alter the future plan of some students and they have to think the alternative and the result may overwhelm many.
In Kerala we have a magnificent winning percentage at both at the higher secondary level and in the tenthstandard. So the numbers of higher study aspirants are even larger than from last year. Even we have number of options but the availability of the seats is limited in every sector and thus it becomes tougher to get admission into the desired course.
But when we keenly observe the students who have opted for various courses, a large group is coming for the program not by interest but by the trend. This is one of the reasons why the Engineering and Medical profession are still the hot favorites. There are many other reasons behind this like the cost of education, the disparity in the social and economic system, the political pressure etc. Even though all these factors are important there is a major fact relating to the student’s decision.
What is Happening????
A large number of people are going for the Engineering stream, may be out of interest or advice etc who are from Biology background. Other than Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering, no engineering students require biology at 12th. The number of students opting for the Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering are very small compared to the rest of the programs in Engineering.
What happened to these biology Science students is they need little more time to cope with the Engineering Mathematics and Information technology side. There is no program in Engineering without Mathematics and is the most important and core paper for the Engineering graduates. What is the importance of Information technology that everybody knows? Here the biology students going to sweat a lot without the proper understanding in these areas. This is the main reason why a studious student in the Plus two levels is having back papers in the professional level. They need to put much more effort to understand the fundamentals than the students with Mathematics and Computer science.
After the tenth standard most of the students are going for the science stream with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. They can’t make up their mind to become a Doctor or Engineer. Though we are living in a technology driven world, majority of the people are dreaming about the career as doctor rather than an Engineer. But the limited availability for the medical seats forces them to select a career in Engineering.
Students and the parents are mostly attracted to the medical field. So the students take Mathematics lightly in their plus two level and find difficulty when it comes to Engineering. These confusions can be avoided if the students take the right decision on the right time and also if they are focused.
What is in your hand???
Now it becomes a custom to attend the career guidance session and series of counseling after the tenth or after the completion of the plus two courses. May be you heard from somewhere that it is your responsibility to take the right decision regarding your future studies. You have to ask yourself that what you are interested in? If you want to see yourself as a Doctor or other medical professional go for the Biology stream. If your favor lies in the technology and in the innovative field go with the stream having Mathematics and computer science.
When you are taking such a decision you have to evaluate the further opportunities available in the field and the way to reach out to these openings. You take the decision only if you are confident in the particular filed, otherwise you are wasting the two essential commodity of today‘s human life, time and money. Also remember one thing, if you are not interested in the particular area and somehow you manage to have a seat, the same seats are counted in the limited one and you are taken away it from the really passionate and deserve one.
How to Proceed????
Now you are in a course in which you are desired for and you really have a career prospect. You have to focus on your studies so as to get your objectives. If you are a biology student, your main motto may be to crack the national or state level Medical entrance examination. These exams are highly competitive in nature so you need to study the basic concepts of Biology along with the Physics and Chemistry. You can start your preparation from the class 11th onwards and can join the coaching centre if needed. For the Computer science and Mathematics students, the good thing is if you are ready to put a little effort you can get a seat in the Engineering program, since there are good numbers of seats rather than in the Medical field. They have to have a good proficiency in Mathematics as well as in the Computer science.
You may find difficulty in focusing in your studies in the early stage, with a lot of excuses of a teenager, but understand, this phase will fade soon and you are accountable to yourself and a highly competitive world is waiting for you.
If you made the correct decision in the early stage you don’t feel to go for the expert advices at the crucial points. Both of the Biology and Computer science learners, you have also other career options other than the Medical and Engineering programs. It is good to keep an Option B and C, but don’t focus on the alternates, be firm in your first choice.
Sometimes the problem lies with the availability of enough seats too. Although the students are taking the right decision, the system is not allowing them to go with their choices. Medical seats are so low that biology students are forced to go for engineering if they fail to get higher rank in the competitive exam.…..
