Eligibility and Exam Pattern for PUCET (M.E)

Admission to M.E courses in Punjab University is carried out on the basis of PUCET (Punjab University Common Entrance Test). Eligible candidate must have completed B.E or B.Tech course in the respective stream with a minimum of 60% marks. On the other hand GATE qualified candidates with a valid score can seek admission without attending PUCET.

M.E Courses under Punjab University

  • Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering
  • Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering
  • Master of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Master of Engineering in Information Technology
  • Master of Engineering in Instrumentation and Control Engineering

Eligibility Criteria for M.E courses

Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering

Engineering degree/5 year integrated B.E degree in chemical engineering along with MBA with a minimum of 60% marks is the required eligibility.

Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology

It is compulsory for candidates to complete either a B.E or B.Tech qualification in computer science or Information technology to apply. A minimum of 60% marks needs to be scored in this level to get admission for the same.

Master of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering

Those candidates who have passed B.E/B.Tech course in any of the following specialization streams can apply –

  • Electronics
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electronics and Telecom Engineering

Candidates need to obtain a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination as well.

Master of Engineering in Instrumentation and Control Engineering

A B.E or B.Tech degree in streams like Instrumentation and Control, Electronics and Electrical Engineering is compulsory to apply for this course. It is essential to pass the graduate course by scoring at least 60% marks in order to apply.

Apart from the above mentioned eligibility criteria’s, those candidates having attempted and passed Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) with a good score can also apply. Such candidates will get an exemption from attending PUCET and may get selected on the basis of GATE score.

Pattern for PUCET (for M.E course)

Non GATE candidates need to compulsorily attend the Punjab University Common Entrance Test (PUCET) to get selected for any of the M.E courses. The test is carried out in objective model and includes a total of 75 questions. The total time limit allotted for answering the test is 1 hour 30 minutes. Separate questions will be there for each of the subject based on the respective subject of study. The final selection of the candidate mainly depends on merit score obtained in PUCET.
