If you want to make your entry into IPS, then you have to crack the civil services examination which is the common written exam for the candidates to make entry into various civil services like

Indian Administrative Service
Indian Police Service
Indian Revenue Service etc.

One should have to go through the following selection procedure to join civil services
CSAT Exam (Civil Services Aptitude Test)
Civil Services Main Exam
Interview

The eligibility criteria for the candidates to take this exam is by

Academic Qualification :
-One should have completed Graduation from a recognized university with any of the stream.
-Candidates who are pursuing final year of Graduation can also take this exam but they should be able to show the proof of passing in Graduation when they appear for Interview.

Age criteria :
-21-30 years of age should be required for the candidates of General category.
21-33 years of age required for the candidates of OBC category
21-35 years of age required for the candidates of SC or ST category.

Number of attempts :
-Maximum of 4 times for the candidates of General category
-Maximum of 7 times for the candidates of OBC category
-No limit on number of attempts for the candidates of SC or ST category.

Having completed Diploma course, you are not eligible to take this exam.

So I suggest you to complete your Graduation first and then take this exam.

Before completion of your Graduation, I suggest you to prepare well for this exam.

All the best.

Unfortunately you can not apply for the Indian Police Service. To do so you must have a graduation degree which you don't have. Diploma course is not equal to a bachelor degree which makes you ineligible for the Indian Police Service.

You will have to complete graduation to appear for Civil Services Examination. The best option would be to complete Bachelor of Technology through the lateral entry admission scheme.

The lateral entry scheme will allow you admission in the second year of B.Tech course. You can appear for the Lateral Entry Engineering Test (LEET), an entrance exam conducted for lateral entry admission.

You must have completed diploma with 60 percent marks to appear for this entrance exams. Otherwise there are other entrance exams that require less percentage, you can appear for them.

Once you have completed bachelor's degree you can appear for the Civil Services Examination for the Indian Police Service.

IPS Eligibility

1. You should be citizen of India.

2. Bachelor's degree in any stream.

3. There is no criteria for percentage in bachelor course.

4. You should be at least 21 years old to apply.

5. Must be under 30 years, which is upper age limit.

6. Upper age limit is 33 years for OBC.

7. Five years relaxation makes upper age limit 35 years for SC/ST.

Exam Pattern

1. Preliminary Exam

2. Main Exam

3. Interview

Number of Attempts

1. General candidate can appear 4 times.

2. OBC candidate can appear 7 times.

3. There is no limit for SC/ST. Can appear as long as meeting age criteria.

For any exam conducted by UPSC you need to get a graduate degree. That is the minimum criteria which needs to be satisfied before you can apply for this examination. Since you are a diploma holder so my advice to you would be to first complete graduation and then apply for this examination.

Along with Indian Forest Service, Indian Administrative Service, IPS is an All India Civil Service Examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. There is lots of prestige and pride associated with this post and every year lots of candidates tries their luck in this exam which is a highly competitive exam no doubt.

To give the IPS Examination you need to be a citizen of India. It is a must for the IAS Exam but the IPS exam can also be given by citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugee who migrated to India after 1st January 1962.

For the IPS Exam as mentioned earlier you need to possess a graduate degree in any discipline of your choice from a recognized university. If you are in the final semester or you have taken the final degree exam but awaiting the results then also you can appear for the IPS Preliminary examination.

Your age should not be less than 21 years when you are about to apply for the IPS Prelim Examination and the upper age limit for giving this exam is 30 years. There is relaxation for the reserved category candidates available.

You need to cross the following hurdles to finally become an IPS Officer:-
