IPS stands for Indian Police Services.

The appointment to this service is done through Civil Services Examination which is
conducted by UPSC once in a year.

The educational qualification required for the Civil Services Examination is
Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.
B.Tech. course is nothing but but a Graduation course in some engineering discipline
so B.Tech. students are definitely eligible for this exam.

The age limit for the exam is
21-30 years (for GEN category candidates)
21-33 years (for OBC category candidates)
21-35 years (for SC/ST/PH category candidates)

The last date to apply for Civil Services Examination 2012 has been passed already.
So you can apply for the examination next year.

The schedule of CSE 2013 shall be available on the UPSC website before the end of year 2012.

So keep visiting the UPSC website so that you can get all the information related to exam
on right time.
