Arts stream candidates have an upper edge over other stream candidates in Civil Services examination because more than 60% syllabus of this examination consists of questions from subjects like Economics, Geography, History, Political Science.
You can select Humanities stream in 10+2 with subjects like Geography, History, Political Science, Economics etc. After that you can pursue graduation in any stream of your choice as candidates from all discipline are eligible for this examination. |

Re: Which field to choose after 10th in order to become an IAS officer?
It is not mandatory to choose any particular stream after 10th standard to become an IAS officer. To be eligible to apply for IAS examination, you should have passed since degree course in any discipline from a Government recognised university. The age criteria required to apply for IAS examination is 21 to 32 years. Upper age relaxation is applicable to reserved category candidates as per government rules. So, you can pursue your higher studies in any stream of your interest after completion of your 10th standard even if you are interested to become an IAS officer.

Re: Which field to choose after 10th in order to become an IAS officer?
To become an IAS Officer, you will have to crack Civil Services Exam that is conducted by UPSC every year.
As you are in 10th standard now, so firstly you will have to complete your Intermediate from any stream (say Arts/Commerce/Science) After this pursue any graduation course like B.Sc or BA or B.Com or B.Tech or B.Pharma or any other course. There is no criteria to choose any particular stream for appearing in Civil Services Exam. In the final year of your graduation, you can apply for Civil Services Exam. In this exam, you will have to qualify three stages to crack this exam namely, Preliminary Exam Main Exam Personal Interview Some of the books that you may refer for IAS exam preparation are: General Studies for Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Paper 2) 2015 (English) 1st Edition (Paperback) Rs. 740 Indian Economy for Civil Services Examination (English) 6th Edition (Paperback) Rs. 378 General Studies for Civil Services Preliminary Examination Paper - 1 (2014) (English) 1st Edition (Paperback) Rs. 1,250 |

Re: Which field to choose after 10th in order to become an IAS officer?
First thing I would like to let you know that to be an IAS ( Indian Administrative Service ) officer you need to qualify Civil Services examination held by UPSC once every year.
Further from the point of view of eligibility for appearing in Civil Services examination, you can opt for any subject for your higher studies as for appearing in same examination the educational qualification required is a graduation in any subject from a recognized university. But the selection of stream becomes very important because when you appear in stage second of Civil Services examination i.e; Mains you will be required to opt a optional subject in which a through knowledge will be required and same is possible only if you are interested in that paper and have studied it from earlier stage. So you must opt for the stream in which you are really interested and which lies to your strength as it would make you more confident for appearing in Civil Services examination. Re: Which field to choose after 10th in order to become an IAS officer?
I suggest you to take PCM in 12th level if you can handle these subjects otherwise you can take any other subjects or streams according to your interest. There is not any type of compulsory subjects in 12th or in higher studies to become an IAS officer.
After completing 12th standard, you have to clear your under-graduate degree course to be eligible to write for UPSC examination. And remember one thing that you age must be 21 years at the time of IAS Prelims Examination. |
