sir , i want to ask how can i join merchant navy after passing out my b.tech in mechanical engineering. is there any entrance exams to enter in the merchant navy so please explain all the entrance exam details including the issuing details for entrance exams as well as submission dates of exams.

YES,My dear friend you are eligible for Indian navy

You can join Indian Navy by giving CDS examination which is organized by UPSC twice in a year in the form of CDSI & CDSII exam.

CDS:- Combined Defence Service
UPSC:- Union Public Service Commission
To join Indian Navy your Age should be in between 19 to 22 years
you should be Unmarried, Male & citizen of India.

>>NOTE=YOU must have physically and medically fit for this exam.

Selection Process:
>Preliminary exam
>interview
>medical test

As you have completed B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, you are eligible to join merchant navy as junior engineer/fifth engineer, but having done mechanical engineering, you will also have to go through a pre-sea course which can be pursued from the Marine Engineering and Research Institute- Mumbai.
The duration of the course is 1 year.
After successful completion of the pre-sea course, you will be eligible to join merchant navy as junior engineer.

Merchant Navy is used for the transportation of cargos.There are mainly three departments in the Merchant Navy.Students can get admission in any of this department by following some of the norms strictly.This career is a rewarding career.
Merchant Navy include the folowing:-
1.Deck officers
2.chief officer
3.Ship engineer
4.Seamen
5.Electrical Officer,
and many others.

The salary of such persons is much higher than their expectations.
Merchant Navy forms were released on 16 April,2012.

* You should under go physical medical test

You actually can join the Merchant Navy. However there would be no need to appear for any entrance exam. Although Marine Engineers have a great scope in merchant navy it does not mean that there are no jobs for mechanical engineers.


You surely can apply for job in Merchant Navy. There are three departments in the merchant Navy, Deck, Engine and Service. The jobs for Mechanical Engineers are in the Engine department.


Merchant Navy is a non-combat fleet. It is not used in war but for transporation or goods. For both exporting and importing items, merchant navy is used. Today over 90 percent of trade is done via sea. From clothes to crude and heavy machinery, all is transported to another country through sea.


The Merchant Navy is its own advantages like you get to see new places. The salary is extremely good and it comes with additional perks. This include taking your wife on the voyage and many more.


Eligibility

A mechanical engineer is eligible for direct entry into the Merchant Navy. Candidates with B.Tech degree in the following streams are eligible for direct entry:


Mechanical

Electrical

Technology


These candidates are ideally asked to go through nine months long pre-sea course from MERI in Marine Engineering before they are recruited. Some of the jobs available for engineers under direct entry are:
