A candidate can apply for the post of IAS or IPS through civil service examination. This examination is conducted by the union public service commission twice in a year.

HOW TO PREPARE
IAS exam is one of the toughest examination of India. For the preparation of Indian Administrative examination you needs minimum of 8-10 hrs of study. First of all I want to discuss a fact with you i.e., IAS/IPS doesn't have separate separate examinations

These two are services Indian Administrative services and Indian Police Services are the abbreviations for IAS and IPS respectively.

For recruiting Personnel in to all these services a common exam is conducted called Civil Service Examination .

This exam is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission).
