hi..
actually the civil services exam is conducted only for four subjects, which are civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics.
so it becomes very hard for other branch students to write the exam,
but yes you are eligible to write ,but you have to really prepare hard because of the competition you are going to face from the students belonging to the electronics branch,
the best thing for you would be to join some coaching center like made easy, that would give you proper guidance and also make your job bit easier

Yes, IT graduates in Engineering can also apply for IES.

But you have to choose one of the following streams as their branch and the questions will also come on the basis of the chosen branch---

*Civil Engineering
*Electrical Engineering
*Mechanical Engineering
*Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

Your age should be between 21 years and 30 years...
And you have also decided to choose ECE as your stream...that is very good.

Go for it....

So get the syllabus of ECE here.

Eligibility To Appear For IES

The Engineering Services Exam is conducted by the UPSC and according to the UPSC guidelines..the following criterion must be fulfilled :

1) Your age should be within 21 to 30 years if general, 21 to 33 years if OBC and 21 to 35 years if SC/ST..

2) The recruitment is done for 4 branches :-
a) Civil Engineers
b) Electrical Engineers
c) Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers
d) Mechanical Engineers

3) You may have an M.Sc. degree in Radio Communications,Radio Physics, Electronics or Physics

As such there is no separate stream for IT engineers but if you want to apply under the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering then you can appear for the examination..

There are 2 objective papers and then 2 subjective papers which you will have to face..

2 objective papers for 400 marks and 2 subjective papers for 600 marks making it a total of 1000 marks..

all the best..

With Warm Regards
Nitz

IES stands for Indian Engineering Services Exam.

This exam is being conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) once in a year to recruit the candidates into the following Engineering services
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

Even though you have completed IT stream in your Engineering course, you have to opt for any of the above mentioned streams while taking this exam.

Even the questions in the exam are also from that subject only.

So, your preparation should be extremely high. Then only you can crack this exam.

As per other eligibility criteria,

with reference to age,
-Candidates of General category can take this exam upto 30 years from 21 years,
-Relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for the candidates of OBC category
-Relaxation in upper age limit upto 5 years for the candidates of SC or ST category.

As you are interested to take this exam with the stream of Electronics and Telecommunication, you can apply for the exam with same stream.

Take coaching for the exam from coaching institute as the subject is new for you.

Prepare well and crack the exam. Don't think in a negative way that it is difficult for you to crack the exam. Be positive. Think like why I can not crack this exam.

Self confidence is a key to crack any exam. Don't loose that.

Wish you all the best.

YES, you are eligible to write the UPSC conducted Engineering Services Exams

To apply for this exam you have to wait for UPSC to advertise the positions

Once advertisement is released than you have to apply online from the website http://upsconline.nic.in/

Now you can apply for this exam in the year 2014 only

Fees to apply is Rs 200
But for SC/ST/Women candidates fees is zero

BE/BTECH pass candidates of any stream can apply for this exams
No minimum marks is required in BE/BTECH

So i would suggest that you should start preparing for this exams right now.

Selection Procedure Involves:
>>Written Test
>> Personality Test

Written Test:

It will have two sections
Sections 1 will have objective questions
Section 2 will have subjective questions
