Master degree holders, Defence Personnel, M.Phil holders and Teaching professionals are eligible to pursue Ph.D from Punjabi University. Such candidates can either look for direct admissions or admissions through entrance test.  Sponsored foreign students, teachers and those with valid score in national level exams like UGC NET, GATE or SLET can try for direct admissions. Others can seek admission by qualifying an objective model entrance test conducted by the University.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D in Punjabi University

Master degree holders as well as M.Phil graduates are eligible for admission. Master’s degree must be obtained with a minimum of 55% marks from any of the recognized University along with a minimum of 50% marks in graduation.

Those candidates with less than 50% marks in graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they should have qualified any of the examinations like NET/GATE/SLET/ST/DBT/ICMR/ICAR/ Inspire Fellowship. Such candidates are also exempted from attending admission test.

Defense Personnel who have obtained their PG degree on the basis of Staff College must hold at least 60% marks for admission.

Candidates with at least 5 year experience in teaching experience are also eligible to apply for Ph.D. Such candidates should have worked with any of the private or government colleges under the jurisdiction of Punjabi University

Admission Procedure for Ph.D in Punjabi University

Selection of suitable candidates to the course is done on the basis of entrance exams. Duration of the entrance test is two hours. There will be 100 questions for 100 marks. Questions will be objective type and based on the syllabus of UGC NET/CSIR/GATE (of the concerned subject). Those who qualify the test with a minimum of 50% marks are considered for further screening.

Candidates who have qualified any of the above mentioned entrance tests (NET, GATE, SLET, etc) are exempted from attending the entrance tests. Teachers with relevant work experience can also seek for direct admission.

Foreign students sponsored by central government agencies like ICCR and Ministry of HRD can look for direct admissions.

M.Phil holders having obtained the qualification from Punjabi University, Patiala and with minimum B+ grade or equivalent can also quit the entrance test. Such candidates should have qualified the entrance intended for selection to M.Phil program. However, candidates with similar qualification from any other recognized Universities should attend and qualify the entrance test for selection.

Final selection of the candidates will be done only after certificate verification and interview. Validity of the entrance test score will remain up to two years.
