The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is the body which presides over the Company Secretary program. The candidates need to clear the Foundation Programme, Executive Programme, and Professional Programme. They also need to have undergone practical training to qualify for the membership as a Company Secretary.

Qualifying Exam

As mentioned above the candidate has to clear the Foundation Programme, Executive Programme and the Professional Programme. Candidates who have passed their 10+2 are eligible to apply for the Foundation Programme. Graduates, post-graduates and those candidates who have passed the final exam of ICAI or ICWAI or from any other Institution of accountancy India or abroad recognized by the Council of the Institute can enroll directly to the Executive Programme without appearing for the Foundation course. Candidates who have cleared the Executive Programme can apply for the Professional Programme. The application forms can be bought directly or by post. They can be obtained from the Central Bank of India. The fee is Rs. 1000/-. The examinations are generally held in the months of June and December every year. The study material is supplied to the students at the time of admission.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • The candidate must have passed the class XII exams or its equivalent
  • They must be atleast 17 years of age.
  • Candidates must have passed the foundation course.
  • Excellent command over the English Language, both oral and written.
  • Must have an ability to understand, examine complex and technological issues and exercise thus with tact and intelligence.

How to prepare for exam and interview?

A candidate who has passed the Foundation Programme is required to possess the practical experience and take the practical training. Students who do not have the specified practical experience are obliged to go through the job training for a period of fifteen months in acknowledged companies or work under a Company Secretary in Practice. The aspirants need to undergo a training of 15 days with the registrar of companies, Financial or banking institution. After clearing the Professional programme and the completion of other training necessities, there will be fortnight long Secretarial Modular Training Programme. Candidates may be excused from undergoing training based on the practical experience they have.

    I am working in State Government of A.P., (Registration and Stamps Department) in clerical cadre post and am 55 years. I have passed M.com degree exam. My question is am i eligible to do CS course as i have crossed 55 years of age. I would like to do CS course. Please suggest.
