MERI 2011 BSc B.Tech
Marine Engineering and Research Institute is creating its own position with the help of its standard studying systems. This marine institute offers different degree courses to students to build the strong professional career. It has started to put all its ideas’ to distribute systematic and discipline life to its students. There are courses like BSC in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering degree present for the aspiring students. The different shipping courses are also available for the candidates, which lead them to create their future line up in Marine Sciences.
In the previous time, this marine institution is termed as Directorate of Marine Engineering Training with having national importance. It was started its participation in August, 1949 and has listed under the most reputed and top ranked Marine Institutes in the world. The institute undertakes aspirants in its marine quota mainly through IIT-JEE and for these courses it has got the affiliation under the Jadavpur University. The Indian Maritime University rewarded as degree in marine engineering to this institution in 2000. It has got one of prime campus which spread over a landscape of 130, 000 square meters and distributes world class Mechanical Lab, Electrical Lab, Hydraulic Lab, Marpol Lab, Fire Fighting Lab, Heat Lab, Computer Lab, Electronic Lab, Control Lab, Boiler Lab, Seamanship Lab, Simulation Lab and ‘A’ grade maintenance.
The institute has amongst the large and advanced library which gives a higher collection of modern videos, books, journals and periodicals for its students. This institute has a well developed workshop with modern equipments like Diesel Engine, Test Rig and working models which are very useful in ship machinery and its components.
The ISO has given its recognition to this institution and it offers 120 seats to the aspirants for the course. There must have an extra advantage for each institute which is its location and this institute has got one of the mega cities of India.
Courses offered by the Marine Engineering and Research Institute:
• 3 year polyvalent BSc (Marine Sciences)
• 4 year Marine Engineering degree course
Eligibility criteria:
• Candidate must have appeared in IIT JEE 2009 to be eligible for this course.
• Candidate must have cleared 10+2 level with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English to be eligible for this course.
• Candidate should not be more than 25 years of age.
• 5 years of age relaxation is given to SC/ ST candidates.
• Candidate should have a normal vision of 6 /6 for admission into Marine sciences.
How to Apply:
• Candidates have should obtain application forms from designated branches of Syndicate Bank on payment of Rs 300/- .

Last date for submission of completed application forms: 1st week of April, 2011.
Commencement of sale of application forms by IIT: 3rd week of November, 2010
Last date of receipt of completed application form at IITs: mid of 3rd week of December, 2010
