Educational and Age Requirement for B. Tech Candidates to Join Air Force

Tech qualification or in the final year of their B. Tech course can also apply to Indian Air Force and here are some of the details regarding their eligibility to start career in Air Force:

Candidates with B. Tech qualification can enter into technical branch as an Officer and in this position, they will be responsible for handling some of the most advanced equipment in the world.

Method of Entry:

B. Tech candidates can make use of any of the following two entry routes for officer position in technical branch of Air Force:

Direct Entry Scheme

University Entry Scheme (UES)

Some of the details regarding these two methods of entry are given below:

Direct Entry Scheme:

Under Direct Entry Scheme for Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) & Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) both men and women are eligible to apply for short service commission, while men alone can apply for permanent commission and for both short and permanent commission; candidates will have to possess the following educational qualification:

Age and Educational qualification for Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) stream:

To apply for Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics stream), Indian candidates (both men and women) should be unmarried in the age group of 18 and 28 years, they should possess any of the following educational qualifications:

Four year engineering degree in any stream with not less than 60% of aggregate marks  in all papers from a recognized university (or)

Candidates must have completed section A and B of Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) (or)

Should have completed Section A and B Exam of Aeronautical Society of India (or)

Graduate Membership Examination of IETE – Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers

While doing any of the aforesaid courses, candidates must have studied a minimum of 8 subjects of the 18  which is given below:

1. Electronic Devices

2. Antenna and Wave Propagation

3. Microwave Engineering

4. Instrumentation

5. Switching Theory

6. Radar Theory

7. Electronic Circuit Design

8. Telecommunication Systems

9. Network Theory Design

10. Information Technology

11. Computer Networks

12. Digital Electronics / Basic Electronics

13. Microprocessors

14. Control Engineering

15. Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology

16. Engineering Graphics / Engineering Drawing

17. Mathematics / Engineering Mathematics

18. Physics / Engineering Physics

Final year B. Tech candidates are also eligible to apply provided they produce their mark sheet and degree certificate 15 days before the commencement of job training.

Age and Educational qualification for Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) stream:

For Mechanical stream, all other conditions which are specified above remains the same, except the list of 18 subjects out of which any 8 subjects should have been studied by the candidates and the list of 18 subjects for applying to officer position in Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) stream is as follows:

1. Aircraft Structures

2. Hydraulics and Pneumatics

3. Workshop Technology / Manufacturing Technology / Production Engineering

4. Vibrations

5. Material Science / Metallurgy

6. Mechatronics

7. Machine Drawing / Machine Design

8. Flight Mechanics

9. Fluid Mechanics / Turbo Machines

10. Theory of Machines (Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery)

11. Heat and Mass Transfer

12. Thermodynamics and Applications / Heat Power Engineering

13. Aerodynamics

14. Engineering Mechanics / Strength of Material

15. Automotive Engineering / Plant Engineering / Industrial Engineering

16. Engineering Drawing / Graphics

17. Engineering Maths / General Mathematics

18. Physics / Engineering Physics

Advertisement for Direct Entry Scheme will be issued usually in leading newspapers/dailies/employement news/job portals in the months of December and June.

University Entry Scheme (UES):

Under University Entry Scheme, only male candidates can enter for Permanent Commission and the qualification requirement under this scheme is given below:

Age and Educational Qualification requirement for UES:

Indian male candidates in the age group of 18 and 28 years and are unmarried are eligible to apply under this UES scheme. To apply, candidates must be studying in their pre-final year of the B. Tech course and should have secured at least 60% of marks at the time of applying. There should not be any arrears/backlog papers for the candidates. Applying candidates should make sure that they must have secured at least 60% of aggregate marks put together in all subjects at the completion of B.Tech course also.
