To become a IPS officer.You should apply for Civil Service exam.Civil Service exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year twice.Civil service exam consist of Preliminary exam and main exam.
Preliminary exam notification release in the month of February every year and exam will held on May every year. After qualifying Preliminary exam,you will eligible for Main exam.Main exam will held on September every year. IPS -Indian Police Service, to become an IPS officer one has to crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC twice every year.
The eligible candidate wishing to join IPS, Civil Service Exam, must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation from reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness. Apart from this the candidate aspiring for IPS should have maintained minimum physical requirement such as:- HEIGHT:- General Male-165cm and Female-150cm while SC/ST Male-160cm and Female-145cm. for attempting an IPS examination you must be an university graduate from any recognized university. you must have the age between 21 years to 30 years. you must be the Indian Nationalist. if you are sc/st you have 5 years of age relaxation. if you are OBC you have 3 years of age relaxation. hope i am clear to you. thanks for posting in EALP. |

Candidates have to score minimum 55 per cent in graduation level. The entrance exam comprises of three sections Preliminary Examination which covers objective type questions, Mains which is subjective type questions and personal interview questions. IPS exam also have some specific physical requirement which are different from rest of the Civil Service exam. Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm. Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm. Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye. The age limit has to be 21 years minimum till 30 years maximum. Incase ofOBCs, it is 33 and 35 for SCs/STs . There are four attempts for the for general, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. The physical standards are equally important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad is conducted. |

Why is so that a person who has done Diploma is not eligible for this EXAM? Now a days Diploma is also equivalent to Degree course of 03 Years, then what is the difference. How can some allowed to appear on the basis of Graduation only. is that mean, that a person who have not done graduation is dumb and not fit mentally or can not understand the situations... pls clarify

IPS is a part of Civil Services, and its exams are conducted by UPSC. Anyone who has completed 21 years of age on 1st August of the year can apply for IPS exam. You can read more information on this from the website of UPSC.
