i m a student of 12th.can i join merchant navy?which forms i had to fill.

after passing 12th standard you have to clear Indian Maritime University(IMU) Exam for joining merchant navy. You can also apply for a sponsorship from a shipping industry by sending your details to the Applied Research Institute(ARI) and clearing the interview. You will then do your basic training form the ARI. But in any case you have to clear the IMU exam.
If you are unable to clear the exam you can join some foreign institutes, but it will be more expensive than IMU and ARI. I recommend Barter International Maritime Studies in Bangkok.

There are different courses comes under merchant navy and the educational qualification is also different. AS you have not specified for which course you want to join indian navy therefore I am giving you all the details.
Educational qualification: The minimum eligibility for courses in Nautical science and Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and mathematics. He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field

Direct entry to Merchant Navy is also possible - students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets and a student holding a bachelor's degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Technology Engineering could also join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer. Direct entry Deck Cadets are required to undergo basic pre-sea training arranged by the recruiting company itself and the direct entry Engineering cadets are preferred to do a Pre-sea course of 9 months duration in Marine Engineering conducted by the MERI.

And test conducted for the admission in indian navy is All India Merchant Navy Entrance Test. and the date for 2010 was 19 Dec 2010 - 21 Dec 2010. the date has been passed therefore for the next exam visit the link:-

I am Debasish Kumar Das and have just passed out my class 12 from CBSE board. But the main reason is i failed in my Mathematics subject and am hereby supposed to appear for my mathematics exam again due on july.The results will be out by August. Is there any hope for me to join Merchant Navy (B.Tech)? I secured 82% marks in english and i m not sure about my PCM combination aggregate at present. please enlighten me if i hav any future in merchant navy (B.Tech) as i desperately want to join the merchant navy (B.Tech). Also please inform me about the required aggregate in PCM combination.Also will i be able to join Merchant Navy(B.Tech) if my PCM combination is 50% or below ?

Hello Friend,

You can join merchant navy after 12th standard by successfully passing IMU i.e. Indian Maritime University exam. It is compulsory to give this exam as all the Indian merchant navy institutes requires this qualification.
For details visit imu.tn.nic.in

In case you fail in this exam then you can do merchant navy course from abroad for eg. from Bangkok, Singapore etc. For this you need to look for good institutes such as BIMS(Barter International Maritime studies) etc.

Hello Friend,

you can join merchant navy through IMU(Indian MAritime University) Exam. After clearing the exam your training will begin in IMU which is in Chennai.

If you consider this far away from your home then you can apply for admission into ARI(Applied Research International) which has centers all across India.

But let me tell you that clearing IMU Exam is compulsory for admission into any merchant navy institute in India. Let it be govt. or private institute.
If suppose you are unable to clear the exam then you can opt for a course in institutes abroad. I suggest BIMS(Barter International Maritime Studies) in Bangkok.

after intermediate completed you can eligible to nda exam.
