no you cannot go for merchant navy because candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.

SORRY DEAR YOU CANT APPLY FOR MERCHANT NAVY PURSUING BBA OR WITH COMMERCE FIELD. The training of all the Indian Merchant Navy personnel is the responsibility of the Government of India, who work through the Ministry of Surface Transport. Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets. |

Yes, merchant navy prefer a PCM background. Need to have basic level knowledge on maths and science to pursue a career in merchant navy. After a commerce stream, it is always better to go for further studies in commerce or try for a management career doing BBA and MBA

This the basic criteria to get admission in merchant navy.....
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS Candidates need to show proof of completing 10+2 system or equivalent, having passed Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as elective subjects. So you are not eligible for this. |

Hello friend,
The minimum qualification to join merchant navy is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. If a candidate has passed with these subjects, he can pursue degree course in Nautical Science as well as marine Engineering. The direct entry as deck cadet in merchant navy also demands the same academic qualification. So, I dont think there is any scope for a commerce student and if you want to join Merchant Navy, you need to have Physics, Chemistry And Maths as the main stream subjects in your +2. |

no if you want to go for the technical field you are not qualified as you need to be a science student for that and after it you could do your Bsc. or Btech but as you are a commerce student you are not eligible for the technical field...........................

You may be able to join as a Purser(A purser who is in charge of the administrative activities of the ship).I also read that responsibility is being given to other officers and thereby(perhaps) gradually moving away the rank.

eligibility for merchant navy is 12th + entrance (IIT)
you are definately eligible after b.tech. but better if you try once before taking admission. if you clear the entrance than you would be getting after your 12th. but no problems after your graduation. since you qualify the basic eligibility. all the best |

In Merchant navy field you have two streams:
Marine Nautical Eligibility: Both unmarried male and female candidates are eligible. You should not be more than 20 years. If you are SC/ST you have a relaxation of age by 5 years. Qualifications: You should be a 12th pass or equivalent from a recognized board. Subjects should be mathematics and physics. |

Friend,
There is a lot of difference between Merchant and Indian Navy and the basic difference between indian navy and merchant navy is that merchant navy is for Transporting goods and products from one country to another country but the Indian navy is for the protecting our country from domestic and international threats and attacks. In merchant navy you will earn a lot of money but in the Indian navy there is honor and respect for you and plus income is also good. GOOD LUCK. |
