hello, i m currently appearing in 12th boards from cbse new delhi,
i am very much interested in joining merchant navy, can anyone please guide me.......

if your have doing your 12 wth (pcm).

then you can join it as a deck cadet,after doing b.sc.
(nautical science).

you can also join as a junior engineer,after completing your b.tech (marine engineering).

You can become a Merchant Navy Officer.There is a 3 year degree course in Nautical Science (Institutions : TS Chanakya (Through IIT-JEE, Southern Academy of Maritime Studies (Chennai), Vels Academy of Maritime Education & Training (Chennai), Vels Academy of Maritime Education & Training (Chennai).OR A 4 year degree course in Marine Engineering (Institutions : MERI (Through IIT-JEE), Tolani Maritime Institute (Mumbai), Southern Academy of Maritime Studies (Chennai), Vels Academy of Maritime Education & Training (Chennai) OR A 3 month course for Deck Cadets.

after 10+2 u have to contact any merchant navy office which provides training
then u have to pass a written exam after which u will be interviewed.....then there will a medical checkup....
then there will be a course for 6 months off- board training and then a 6 months on- board training.......

tolani,torm,mearsk,anglo eastern,babar......these are situated in mumbai...namac is a govt. running institute for merchant navy....

you can join it by giving mercent navy test and NDAtest

since you are in 12th,merchant navy test and nda tests are the ways by which you can join merchant navy.

I am impressed that you want to join merchant navy, there are so many institute who provide such type of course to thier student but it depends on you to join as better as possible. Its on you to fulfill thier eligibility criteria and take there admission.

Hello chitra you have to persue a one year post graduate diploma in marine engoneering if you want to join merchant navy in there engineeers cadre as a junior engineers at entry level.

The course is offer by variour institutes and port trusts.

like IMU offers 1 year diploma in marine engineering.

MERI,mumbai.kolkata offers the same.

Garden reach shipbuilding also offers it.

For meri and imu you have to crack an entrance naming CET for admission.
Garden reach shipbuilding offers direct admission on the basis of marks obtained in b.e./b.tech.

My younger bother just cleared the exam for BSC in Nautical Science from "Indian Maritime University" (http://www.imu.tn.nic.in). He got the 50th rank, and college has been assigned to him "SOUTHERN ACADEMY OF MARITIME STUDIES (Chennai)". i just want to know about the college regarding placement, any feedback. i am very curious about the college. Please suggest should i go with this college or should give the another exam to get some great college for marine....

ok first you just give your 12th board exam and then see for the different merchant navy exam conducted by different companies and give there exams and if you qualify that then you will be called for an interview and then for a medical exam .after all this you can join any shipping company .

University of Mumbai offers 3 years Bsc. degree in marine engineering. There are two streams one is Navigation discipline, highest post is Master of ship for a navigation officer and second stream in Marine engineer the highest post is Chief Engineer

yes you can do merchant navy as you have passed hsc exam but you crossed the age limit in my knowledge
