Procedure and Eligibility criteria of Merchant Navy after 12th Interested in Joining Merchant Navy !!! Please read below and select your Qualifications :

i) 10+2 with equal or more than 40% marks in any stream.

ii) 10+2 with equal or more than 55% but less than 60% marks in PCM aggregate.

iii)10+2 with equal or more than 60% marks in PCM aggregate.

Yes , you are absolutely eligible for the merchant navy course.

The minimum educational qualification is graduation with 50% marks.

Also , 50% marks in english is must.

The age limitation is 25 years .

As you from mechanical background , so you have an advantage.

The candidate also needs to pass medical fitness before the exam.

The exam pattern consists of the entrance and the interview round.

how can i join merchant navy i,m pursuing engg. in mechanical sream in final year?

Dear friend.
Merchant navy is a field this related to the management , transport and shipping of industrial goods, couriers, import and export of material between two countries through the water ways and naval shippings.

There are a number of courses in merchant navy.
Career in merchant navy can be pursued either as an officer or a rating in mainly two specialised fields:
1. Marine engineering
2. Nautical deck

There are other posts too like to be a seafarer you have to take up presea courses after 10th. These are called ratings.

For officers post in the merchant navy you can join the following courses after 10+2 with science with mathematics stream:
>> 3 year degree course in nautical science.
>> 4 year degree course in marine engineerhng.
>> 3 months course to enter as a deck cadet.

After your diploma also you can enter the 2 year course in marine engineering.

After your graduation in machenical engineering you can enter into the 1 year course in marine engineering or nautical science.

After 10th you can take up the followimg RATING to become a sea farer:
>> 4 months pre sea course(PSC) General Purpose rating.
>> 3 month PSC deck rating.
>> 3 month PSC engine rating.
>> 4 month PSC saloon rating.

Also to become a utility hand or pretty officers (fitters) you can opt 4 basic courses to complete:
FPFF, EFA, PSSR and PST.

All these courses have been provided by many govt institutes across India. Some most popular ones are:
1. Chanakya training ship, Navi, Mumbai.

minimum eligibility is that you should complete 10+2 or an equivalent exam in physics,chemistry,mathematics.
you should also passs in medical fitness test.and eye sight must be 6/6 wiht no colour blindness.Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete a Bachelors degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field.

No, you cannot join merchant navy with 10th you should have have done your 12th,it's a must then only you satisfy the criteria for the courses to join in merchant navy and the criteria for doing the courses are:

B.E Marine Engineering:

Duration: 4 years

Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English

B.Sc Nautical Science:

Duration: 3 years

Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English

M.E Marine Engineering:

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility: B.E Marine Engineering.

So,carry on doing your 12th and finish your exams with good marks and apply for the exam.
