Indian Air Force SSC Officers in Flying Branch 2011
Indian Air Force conducts a selection process for Short Service Commissioned (SSC) Officers in Flying Branch. Indian Air Force has three main branches for which recruitment is done: Flying Branch, Technical Branch & Grounds Duty/Operational Support Group. Flying Branch is surely the most exciting where the selected candidates are trained as trained either as a Fighter pilot, a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot at the prestigious Air Force Academy.
The entrance exam is conducted on a national scale in which candidates from all over the nation appear. The exam is of high standard and offers tough competition as there are very less number of seats offered in the Flying Branch. The Indian Air Force holds this exam on an annual basis and recruits different first as well as second class based officers.
The candidates are trained under the exclusive eye of the Indian Air Force and have been termed to be one of the most exciting jobs offered by the Indian Defense. The candidates enjoy a stable career within the Government sector and earn the high reputation for serving the nation in terms of different amenities and perks.
Indian Air Force is a highly reputed defense organization of the country and is one of the most aspired careers for adventurous candidates. Admission as short service commissioned officers in flying branch is open to both male/female candidates. Recruitment is done on the basis of vacancies which will be available with the admission notification.
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and Physics & Mathematics in class 12th as well as candidates with B.E./B.Tech degree with 60% aggregate marks can apply. Final year candidates can also apply provided they do not have any backlog and have more than 60% in their last semester/year exam. Also the candidate must be between 19 years to 23 years of age as on 1st July, 2011. Also the candidate should not be married.
Important dates:
Release of notification: September 1st week, 2011
Last date for receipt of applications: October 1st week, 2011
Commencement of training: July, 2011
Application procedure:
Candidates can either send a handwritten/typed application form (on an A4 size paper) according to the format given in the admission notification or download the application form from the website: www.careerairforce.nic.in. The candidates have to send the filled application form along with two passport sized photographs and two self addressed envelopes to the following address: The retained application form have to be duly send to the given address within the specified time limit.
The Examination board holds no responsibility for the loss or damage of the replied Admit Card or received application form. The damaged application form will be straight away rejected without prior notice to the respective candidate. The delay receiving of the application form should also result in cancelling of the entrance of that respective candidate. However the final decision regarding the event solely lies with the Examination Board.

Selection Procedure:
First the applications of the candidates are scrutinized and the eligible candidates are called for Selection Process which is conducted over a period of 6 days. In first phase Pilot Aptitude Batter Test(PABT) is conducted for assessing a candidate’s aptitude to be trained as a pilot. After that is Intelligence test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT).
Those who qualify in these tests will go for further rounds. The shortlisted candidates then have Psychological Test, Group Tests and Interview. Finally there is a thorough medical examination for selected candidates at Air Force Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi or the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bengalooru.
Physical requirements:
Height and Weight: Minimum height - 162.5 cms with correlated weight and leg length in the range of 99 cms (Min) and 120 cms (Max).
Vision: 6/6 without spectacles (or other forms of corrective lenses) and must not suffer from colour / night blindness.
