Technical Writer - How to become a Technical Writer?
A technical writer is someone who plans, makes and preserve technical documentation. This documentation comprises of design specifications, user guides, system manuals and white paper etc along with other documents. Technical writing deals with the communication of a particular subject or idea to the readers in an effortlessly understandable method. A few colleges in India offer programs in technical writing as the mainstream. Technical Communication is offered as an optional paper by the Calicut University of Kerala in their Master of Communication and Journalism course. In addition to this, the Stella Maris College located in Chennai also offers a short term course in this subject.
Qualifying Exam
The Technical Writing course does not have any entrance exams. Students who are applying for this course must have knowledge in computer software application. This will especially help them in the IT sector.
Who is eligible to apply?
The Applicants must be citizens of India. The minimum age of applying is 17 years. There is no formal study available in the field. Students who have finished their Bachelors degree or Master’s degree in Journalism and mass communication, Science, IIT or English Literature can apply for the technical writing course.
How to prepare for exam and interview ?
Candidates who are appearing for the technical writers’ exam must be familiar with computer software. They must also have good communication skills. The candidates can prepare for the examination by appearing for the mock tests that are available in the internet. Candidates can also read articles based on the topic. It is also possible for the candidates to consult the previous alumni. The candidates who are appearing for the interview must make sure that they have noted the details regarding the exam and interview carefully. It is also most important that the candidate answer to the point at the time of the interview.
