The minimum Height required to join Indian Army as a Soldier varies depending upon the region from where the candidates belongs to. Like candidates belonging to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh etc. the required height is more compared to candidates belonging to any other region.

Basically, the standard has been set depending upon the region one belongs to and therefore, the minimum required height is as follows:

For candidates belonging to Western Himalayan Region-166 cm
For candidates belonging to Eastern Himalayan Region-160 cm
For candidates belonging to Western Plains Region-170 cm
For candidates belonging to Eastern Plains Region-169 cm
For candidates belonging to Central Region-168 cm
For candidates belonging to Southern Region-166 cm

I think your height is not suffice to become a soldier because the minimum height required is about 5.4 feet but yours is of 5.1. you can be placed in army for other jobs like clerks in office or for cooking or as dhobi.

The height and weight requirements for Soldiers in Indian Army varies according to the regions in India.

So you have not stated your region or from where you belong in India.

India is divided into six geographical regions and height required is slightly different for every region.

So you have to be check from which region you are and what minimum height is required for it.

For soldier position one should have a very good height and physical fitness then only you will be selected.

You can join indian army in various manners. If you want to join indian army after matriculation , There is an age factor . Age required is 17 yrs. and height required is different for differnt regions. There is relaxation for Himalaya region , Nepalese, UK, Dogra class etc.

And after engineering you can also join indian army through SSB in officer cadre.

You are not eligible because the minimum height required for joining the Indian army is 5.4 inches at least and as you are having a height of 5.1, you are not allowed to join the Indian army with this height.

*If you want to join as an officer in indian army the minimum height for male is 152 cm.
*minimum height for female candidates is 150 cm.
*maximum height is 195 cm given in official website.
