I want to appear for UPSC, IPS.
I am meeting all the requirements, but my height is 163cms.
requred height is 165cms.
I am very much tensed.
Do i still have a chance.?

yes you are eligible for IPS exam as eligibility for IPS exam is candidate should have height between 158 cm to 163 cm.

hi,


you are right.minimum height for IPS officer is 165cm.but there is relaxation for sc/st candidates that is 160cm.but dont get tensed.you can go for other exams like CRPF.

if you belong to ST then no need to worry as ALL IS WELL

but if you are a general or OBC category student then
i am really sorry to tell that its quite difficult situation for you .. you are 2cm short , actually the limit is 165cm but then a pure luck can only help you .. the probability of you getting through is less than 1%..!

so don't feel depressed this is not the end of the world there are various exams

hello Mr. VIKASH HALOI i am very happy to tell you that there is no problem for you in getting selected if you have passed the exams . the main reason for this is since you are Assamese so there is a relaxation of height up-to 5 cm so for you now the eligible height is 160cm so ... you are well above the height required..

IPS - Indian Police Service

It is one of the Indian Civil Service exam and the exam is conducted by UPSC every year.

The candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria's for applying for the IPS exam.

Eligibility:

The candidates must be a citizen of India

The candidates must have a age limit of 21-30 years.

For SC/ST candidates it is 35 years.

For OBC candidates it is 33 years.

The candidates must have a degree from a recognized university in any discipline.

The candidates who are writing their final degree exam can also apply for this exam.

Physical Standards:

Height:

Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm

Chest:

Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.

Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

The candidates are possibly selected through 3 stages:

Preliminary exam.
Main exam.

The minimum height required in order to be eligible for civil services exam is 165 cms. And according to you you meet all the requirements but your height is 163cms , i.e., 2cms sort of the required height.

My friend , i just want to tell you that if you belong to SC/ST/OBC category then there is every chance for you to get eligibility for the same because there is a relaxation of 5cms in upper age for candidates from these categories but howsoever if you belong to general category , then it seems that it`s quite impossible for you to be eligible for the exam.

# Degree in any discipline from any recognised university.
# Required age limit for General category is 21-30 years
# Required age limit for OBC category is 18-33 years.
# Required age limit for SC/ST category is 18-35 years.
# Candidate must have 165 cm of height. However their is relaxation in height for SC and ST categories.

-- So your height is shorter than the required height for IPS post. So you are presently not eligible.

-- If you belongs to any reserved category, then their is fair hope for you.

yes! u still have a chance, chance to get into other posts of the civil services, if at all u are rejected after getting success in such a huge competition but only because of your height if you would be rejected then they will surely consider a better candidate.
so first of all you have to secure such a good rank that you can opt for the IPS; as IPS rank is not an easy task. then have to pass all other physical requirements, medical fitness test etc.
if all tests you will pass in good range then only because of your height you wont be rejected.

so dont worry! concentrate and study success will touch your feet.

Physical Requirements for IPS:-
Eye sight –
6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.
Near vision J1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye.
The correction by lenses only. High standard for the Colour-blind test. No inherent night blindness. Vision should stereoscopic.

Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels.

Nasal- clear and free from any polyps and injury, both nasal passages should be clear.

Speech-The candidate should not stammer while speaking.

Height –
Male 165 cm Male general & (SC/ ST/OBC) – 160 cm
Female 150 cm Female general & (SC/ ST/OBC) - 145 cm

Chest –
Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

Blood pressure (High) :– 123– 127.

Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of Medical Test.


The physical standards are a rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc.


so dont worry and start concentrating on other aspects of the IPS other than height. YOU still have a chance. GOOD LUCK

You must try for the exam because the req is 165 cms but your height is 163 so you don't need to worry much about it.....

Don't be tense, you can apply for Indian Army, C.R.P.F etc.

Sir..my height is 148 cms and my category is OBC. But in the official notification, the height relaxation of 145 cms is there for only ST category.but im keen interested in ips. Is there any chance for me to qualify if im of 148 cms
