Hello Lalit ,

Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS) are the exams conducted for the recruitment of class I officers in the government sector .

These exams are conducted by UPSC .

The eligibility criteria for these exams is as follows :

I] Nationality :

A candidate should be a citizen of India
or a subject of Nepal
or a subject of Bhutan
or a Tibetian refugee who has come to India before 1 st January 1962 with the Intention of permanent settlement .

II] Educational Qualification :

A candidate should be graduate inany discipline from any recognised university.
A candidate appearing for the final year graduation exam can also appear for this exam but he /she has to submit the degree certificate before the Mains exam .

III] Age :

For general category : 21 to 30 years
For OBC : 21 to 33 years
For SC/ST :21 to 35 years
For physically disabled : 21 to 40 years


IV] Number of attempts :

4 : for general category
7 : for OBC
No Limit : for SC/ST

The exam is conducted in three phases : i)Preliminary exam
ii)Main exam
iii)Interview

You can certainly apply for the Indian Administrative Service following the completing of your graduation course. However to apply for Indian Police Service, there are sets of physical requirements which you are also required to meet.

Both the exams are conducted under Civil Services Examination by Union Public Service Commission. You can prepare for the exam on your own and even through a coaching center as you have suggested.

You can join the coaching center 6-8 months before appearing for the Civil Services Examination. Which means that if you are interested in appearing for the exam next year then better take admission in coaching center in next couple of months.

If you prefer preparing at home then get the books of 12th standard by NCERT. You should also buy books on essay as well. You should also read newspapers and political magazines like India Today, Outlook etc.


IAS/IPS Eligibility

1. Only Indian nationals are selected for these two.

2. Candidate must complete a graduation course.

3. There is no percentage requirement.

4. Your age should be 21 to 30 years.

5. 3 years upper age relaxation for OBC.

6. 5 years relaxation for SC and ST.

7. There are no physical criteria for IAS.


IPS Physical Criteria

1. Height (Male) should be 165 cm.

2. Criteria for Female is 150 cm.

3. There is 5 cm relaxation for ST belonging from both genders.

4. Chest (Male) should be 84 cm with 5 cm expansion.

5. Female criteria is 79 cm with 5 cm expansion.

Yes, you can apply for IPS/IAS after completing graduation. Age of the applicant must be between 21 and 30 years. Candidates belonging to backward caste can have concession in age. In usual cases, one can attend the test at most 4 times. Civil services Academy,IAS Academy, etc are some of the reputed coaching centers for exm preparation.

There is no specific exam as IPS and IAS exam.

To become an IAS/IPS(Indian Administrative Service/Indian Police Service)officer, one has to apply, appear and crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years, can apply for Civil Service Exam.

Ear- good listening & normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment shd not be more than 30 decibels

8. The physical standards are important for the job profile and the rigorous training at the NPA, which includes weekly run for 10 k.m. in 60 minutes, route march for 25 k.m. UAC, Horse riding, rock climbing, assault course, PT obstacles, rope climbing etc.

These two exams are known as the Indian Civil Service exam and this exam is conducted for candidate to join in IAS and IPS post.

These two exams are being conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) and is held every year.

Being a B.com Final year candidate you are eligible for either of both the two exams as per the Education qualification which is needed for the exam as you are satisfying it.
