Details About Merchant Navy:

Merchant Navy is a combat fleet and is used to transport cargos and other heavy vessels.The posts which you can get in are in Deck,the engine.

You need to satisfy certain eligibility conditions to join in Merchant navy and they are you need to have studied any of the following courses mentioned below to join in Merchant Navy:


For joining in Merchant Navy,the candidate must have done courses like:

• B.E Marine Engineering
• M.E Marine Engineering
• B.sc Nautical Science

First and for most eligibility that candidate need to have is that the candidate must be a citizen of India

The candidate must pass medical fitness test for sea service with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.

B.E Marine Engineering:

The duration for this course is 4 years and for for joining in this course the candidate must have completed respected +2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as subjects.


B.sc Nautical Science:

The duration for this course is 3 years and for eligibility joining in this course the candidate must have completed respected +2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with a fair percentage.

M.E Marine Engineering:

The duration for this course is 2 years and for for joining in this course the candidate must have completed B.E Marine Engineering with a fair percentage.

The Merchant Navy is a non combatant commercial Fleet which deals with trasportation of Cargo and occasionally passenger by sea. The Merchant Navy fleet includes cargo ship, container ship, tanker, bulk carrier, refrigerator ship, passenger ship.

There are various type of jobs in Merchant Navy such as:-

Deck Officer- The officer from this branch primarily look after ship's navigation, loading unloading, cargo and general administration of ship.

Engineering - Marine engineers are responsible for efficient and smooth operation of the ship.

Radio & Wireless Communication- This department is concerning with the shore and and maintaining the equipments as well.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MERCHANT NAVY:-

To join Navigation and Marine Engineering Branch of Merchant Navy, one must have Graduation Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or B.Sc. in Nautical Science fro any recognised University.

B.E. in Marine Engineering- The course is of Four years duration and can be pursed after 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

B.Sc. Nautical Science- The course is of three years duration and can be pursed after 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

One can also join as deck cadet on board a ship after completing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and train on the job for three years. After on job training one has to appear for the competency exam as required by Union Ministry of Surface Transport, to be eligible to become a Navigation Officer.
