How to join Indian Navy as Technical Officer?
To join Indian Navy as Technical Officer, one should first of all submit their applications through online. They should mention whether they are applying for Technical Officer (General Services), Technical Officer (Submarine) or Technical Officer (Naval Architecture) post. Only unmarried male candidates can apply for Technical Officer (General Services) and Technical Officer (Submarine) post while both unmarried men and women candidates can apply for Technical Officer (Naval Architecture) post. Staff Selection Board (SSB) will conduct interview for short listed applicants and training will be given for qualified candidates.
Eligibility Criteria
Technical Officer (General Services)- To get into the engineering branch, one should possess B.E/B.Tech degree in Mechanical/ Industrial and Production/Marine/Metallurgy/Automotive/
Aeronautical/Aerospace/Mechatronics Engineering- To join Electrical Branch, candidates should possess B.E/B.Tech degree in Electrical/Instrumentation and Control/Instrumentation/Electronics and Instrumentation/Electronics/Control System/Tele Communication/Computer Science/Electronics and Communication/Power Electronics/Power Engineering
Technical Officer (Submarine) - Candidates need to have B.E/B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering to join Engineering Branch. Candidates should obtain B.E/B.Tech degree in Telecommunication/ Electrical/ Control/ Electronics/ Instrumentation Engineering to get into Electrical Branch
Technical Officer (Naval Architecture) - To join Naval Architecture branch, candidates need to have B.E/B.Tech degree in Naval Architecture/Mechanical/Aeronautical/Civil/Aerospace Engineering
Candidates should have completed the concerned B.E/B.Tech degree from any University approved by Union Grants Commission (UGC) with minimum of 60% marks. Also their age should be between 19 ½ and 25 years to apply for General Services and Submarine specialization. Age limit specified to apply for Naval Architecture cadre is between 21 and 25 years. Height specified for men candidates is 157 cms and for women candidates is 152 cms.
Those who are applying for any of these technical posts should not have colour/night blindness. Eye Sight specified for General Services and Submarine specializations is 6/24 (without glasses) and 6/6 (with glasses). But in the case of Naval Architecture cadre, it is 6/60 (without glasses) and 6/12 (with glasses).
Selection Process
Those who apply for post of Technical Officer will be called for interview according to their marks obtained in the qualifying examination. If the candidates posses higher degree, then their aggregate in higher degree will be considered for cut off. Staff Selection Board will conduct the interview in two stages such as Stage I and Stage II. Different sections of tests included in Stage I are
- Intelligence Test
- Picture Perception
- Discussion test
Only those who get qualified in Stage I can appear for Stage II which includes following sections.
- Psychological testing
- Group testing
- Interview
After qualifying Stage II, one should undergo medical examination. Depending on the number of vacancies, medically fit candidates will be sent for training.
Training
Training will be given for finally selected candidates at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. There is Naval Orientation course with a duration of 22 weeks. During that course, professional training will be given in Naval Training Ships or Establishments. Those who want to join Submarine cadre should clear interview with Submarine Qualifying Board after completing the training.
