Procedure to get in to a degree course after diploma
After diploma course, one can join directly to the second year of engineering degree course through lateral entry scheme. For that, the candidates should qualify either Common Entrance Tests like Punjab Technical University, Lateral Entry Entrance Test (LEET), Kerala University Lateral Entry Test etc. or separate entrance test conducted by the institution. But in the case of other degree courses, diploma holders can get admission to first year itself on the basis of their marks obtained during diploma course. Entrance test is not there to get admission to these courses except for some Universities like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Nehru Gram Bharati Vishwavidyalaya etc.
Procedure to get into engineering degree courses after diploma
To get into an engineering degree course, diploma holders should first of all check the eligibility criteria specified by the institution where they are going to apply. Most of the institutions specify a certain amount of percentage for the diploma course. Candidates should ensure that they possess enough percentage to forward their application. Universities like Visvesvaraya Technological University specify minimum of 50% marks for diploma course. But in the case of universities like Kashmir University, minimum of 60% marks is required for diploma course. Candidates should also ensure that the selected institution offers B.E/B.Tech courses in an engineering branch related to their diploma course. This is due to the condition that a diploma holder in Civil Engineering can seek admission to only B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
The next step is to obtain the application forms from the relevant institution. Candidates can either download the forms from the official website or purchase it from the designated centers. Application fee can be paid in cash while purchasing it from the specified centers or it can be paid through demand draft taken in the favour of concerned authority. While entering details into the form, candidates should specify that they are seeking admission through lateral entry scheme. After completing all the details, application forms can be submitted through post along with the demand draft. In certain cases, applicants can submit their forms online after making the payment through internet banking or by using credit/debit cards.
If the applications get short listed, the candidates will be called for entrance test. If they obtain adequate score in the entrance test, then they should appear for counseling specified on a particular date. Once short listed, they can join the relevant engineering course.

Procedure for diploma holders to get into other degree courses
Diploma holders who want to get admission into degree courses other than engineering should first of all select the course for which they are eligible. Then they should obtain the application form from the relevant institution by paying the application fee in cash. They should fill the form as per the instructions given on the information brochure. Duly filled forms can be submitted through post along with the specified documents and it should reach the concerned office before closing date. It is possible to pay the application fee by demand draft and send it along with the filled form. Online filling and submission is there in the case of certain institutions. In that case, fee payment can be done through credit/debit cards or internet banking.
Application forms will be short listed according to the marks obtained in qualifying examination and short listed candidates will be called for counseling. After counseling, they can join the relevant degree course.
Certain Universities like Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Nehru Gram Bharati Vishwavidyalaya etc. conduct entrance test for short listing candidates to degree courses.
